[enviroCar-discuss] Some doubts about the app

Rahul Raja
Hi,

I am Rahul, working on the enviroCar app this GSOC.
Some questions i have regarding its functionality

1. What does the 3rd icon in the dashboard besides bluetooth and
car supposed to do? Its symbol is like GPS but there is always a
question mark besides it. It doesnt changes even on turning on the
GPS?

2. What is the Logbook intended to do? It sends some data which
i enter. But where does this data go and what is the data used for?

Thanks
Rahul

That symbol is basically an indicator that there is a GPS Fix available (= valid Locations are received). It will change to a greenish symbol once there is a fix. We decided to make it prominent as the App is currently designed to only store records when there is a position available. Besides the symbol change, there is also a Text-To-Speech message once the GPS Fix is available or lost, so the user can act accordingly.

This feature is kind of new and currently only provides the upload functionality. Still, the data is stored on the server (request similar to [1]). The idea is to allow a driver to monitor and log his/her fueling stops at a gas station. The information from these can be compared to the fuel consumption comparisons done by the App, thus providing an approach to evaluate the calculations.
