[enviroCar-discuss] Move of enviroCar server VMs to new host server

Eike Hinderk Jürrens
Dear enviroCar enthusiasts,
we are going to move the envirocar VMs to a new hosting server for
improving performance and stability. Hence, we expect some downtime for
all services that build the enviroCar ecosystem. To reduce the
interruption, we move one VM at a time starting today at 17:00 CET. The
roadmap looks like the following:

-------+--------------------------+-------------+-----------------------
Date  |        Server            | Downtime    | Expected Interruption
-------+--------------------------+-------------+-----------------------
28.01. | processing.envirocar.org | ~30 minutes | none
-------+--------------------------+-------------+-----------------------
01.02. | ags.52north.org          | ~8 hours    | ArsGIS online maps not
       |                          |             |  working
-------+--------------------------+-------------+-----------------------
02.02. | envirocar.org            | ~8 hours    | Website and core
       |                          |             | services not available
-------+--------------------------+-------------+-----------------------

We are starting the move for each server at the given date at 17:00 CET.
The copied instance will be configured on the next day. After finishing
this, the according DNS entry of the domain is updated. Hence, the new
instance will be available at different times depending on your ISP and
the used DNS. Registration of new users, uploading or deleting tracks
will not be possible from 02.02. 17:00 CET beginning with the downtime
of envirocar.org until the new instance is available.

We will inform you after each finished VM move and at the end of this
process.

Kind regards,
Eike

Re: Move of enviroCar server VMs to new host server

Eike Hinderk Jürrens
Dear enviroCar enthusiasts,
the move of processing.envirocar.org has been finished just now
including the DNS update. As the server doesn't store any data and
provides processing facilities only, no interruption in your enviroCar
experience should be expected.

Because of technical issues during the set-up of the host environment,
the configuration of the new instance of ags.52north.org is move to
tomorrow together with the configuration of the new instance of
envirocar.org.

The move of envirocar.org will start within the next 15 minutes and the
service will be in read-only mode when back online until the
configuration of the new instance is finished tomorrow morning.

Kind regards,
Eike

Re: Move of enviroCar server VMs to new host server

Eike Hinderk Jürrens
Dear enviroCar enthusiasts,
the move of envirocar.org has been finished just now including the DNS
update. As the server stores date and the old instance is set to
read-only mode, you might experience some interruptions in your use of
the enviroCar website and server. These result in the different update
times of DNS servers all over the internet. We expected a maximum of 24h
for all DNS servers to update and deliver the new IP of the
envirocar.org server.

Next is the configuration of the new ags.52north.org VM and update of
its DNS entry.

We will inform you right after finishing that process.

Kind regards,
Eike

Re: Move of enviroCar server VMs to new host server

Eike Hinderk Jürrens
Dear enviroCar enthusiasts,
the move of ags.52north.org has been finished just now including the DNS update. The data is updated using a supervisor service, hence, missing tracks should be available soon.
According to the DNS updates, you should experience the better performance of the service within the next 24 hours. The old instances of the envirocar.org and ags.52north.org servers will be stopped tomorrow afternoon. This marks the finish line of the enviroCar server move.

Sorry for any inconvenience and enjoy the new servers!

Kind regards,
Eike
